Crosscultural Evangelism Training Course
Crosscultural Evangelism Training Course
This year began with the focus on the national missions of the former Soviet Union. The key event was the first national training course on Cross-cultural Evangelism (see the pictures attached). It was extremely successful! The course was in high demand. It was designed as an "open course" available to everyone who applies, not for the seminary students only. There were as many people to audit as the actual students! Some of them are already serving as the missionaries to ethnic minorities in the former Soviet Union (Crimean Tatars, Roma, etc.)

and/or are doing mission trips to other countries like Russia, Moldova, India and Mozambique. We filmed a video of the course, which we will make available after editing. Nevertheless, some students were recording the audio of the lectures with their smartphones and sending the files on to their ministers and missionaries right away! Thank you so much for your prayers and for everything you shared to make this strategic event happen. May the Lord be praised!

Given such a great gathering of current and future national missionaries, we set up a round table on the national missions’ challenges, problems and opportunities (please see the pictures attached). It was a very fruitful discussion beneficial for everybody. Praised be the Lord!

Now we are working on the follow-up project: we are developing a video version of the course. The course will go online for the missionaries in the restricted areas who are unable to come in person. Also, we are going to update the course PowerPoint presentation to respond to the questions raised during the course, and develop the textbook to train the future national missionaries to minister cross-culturally. Please keep this work in your prayers since it brings much fruit for the Kingdom’s greater glory!

We have been doing special children summer programs for training leaders and field-testing the curricula for many years. However, we have had to deal with significant limitations for the last couple of years. One of these limitations is that the kids and coaches from mainland have been restricted from taking part in these programs.

Notably, there is a great need to provide such programs for the children of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Donbas (the Eastern Ukraine region invaded by Russia). Before we used to supply children’s ministries there with the resources using the Donetsk Christian University campus as a base. Unfortunately, its facilities have been turned into the barracks for gunmen. All the books from the biggest theological library in Eastern Europe are purposefully burned to heat the barracks (though there is plenty of coal available in the region)! The kids from the confrontation line whose parents cannot leave their homes spend their summers in the houses (often damaged ones) and sometimes even in the basements listening to the artillery shelling.

The Lord has put into our hearts a strong desire to organize the camp in August 2018 not far from Kiev to meet this need and use the opportunity to share God's love and God's word with the children hurt by the war in the hope to reach both them and their parents for the Kingdom.

He has provided a team of leaders (most of them also IDPs) who had been involved with the children’s ministries prior to the war. We have also started the preparations by developing a network of contacts and designing the programs for the project. Please pray with us for this project – for vision, safety, for the workers and children.

Our field base for the contacts network is located at the town of Avdeievka, right on the military confrontation line. With the children from the mainland (both resident and IDPs), we organize charity fairs where kids sell their handicrafts and homemade treats.

This helps raise funds to provide children’s materials and gifts to the churches of the region (see the pictures attached). However, the funds thus raised are not sufficient for the camp. Please join our prayers for the Lord to provide!

There was a great encouragement for us from the message sent by a member of the Siberian ethnic minority who serves as a missionary to Russia's Far East and Northern China. (I’m afraid this is all the info I can share for safety reasons.)Here’s the message: "Thank you so much for your book “In Search of God's Will.” Our family is facing challenges both in terms of employment and ministry. The book has proven such a relief for us! Praised be the Lord! Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty!"

That person also wrote how much he appreciates the media tools we provided in various versions both in Russian and in Chinese. Given the problems with the shipments of printed materials to the region, he asked us a few months ago to supply him with digital copies of our “Answers” brochures, so that he could print them on site as needed. As a result, he shared about 1,000 of them with the people who asked questions! Praised be the Lord! Please pray with us for this courageous warrior of Jesus!

Christmas Readings
The work continues in the most remote parts of the former Soviet Union! Our coordinator in Russia's Far East writes: "Today we have had the final session of the "Christmas Readings" project. The idea was to use Christmas holidays (Russian Christmas is on January 7th, as you know – SG) as an opportunity to read the book "Dinner With Skeptics" together, since this is the season non-believing relatives, colleagues, etc. are more open for discussions. The book is intended to prepare the young people to give reasoned answers to the questions of skeptics. The project involved young believers, but the influence of the book went far beyond. Parents, acquaintances and friends also began to read the book and share their ideas ... I hope that many will be ready to always give an answer to every man that asketh a reason of the hope that is in us with meekness and fear!" (see the picture attached)

Foundations Media Club
Foundations Media Club
Since the school academic year begins in September, the same missionary has started the Foundations Media Club for teenagers at the Renewal Evangelical Church in of Blagoveshchensk, Amur Region. At the club, they watch the online videos on apologetics and discuss them afterwards (see the picture attached). That helps young people build a solid foundation for the Scripture-based faith. The discussions end with a quiz. Everybody gets a gift − a book on Christian apologetics; the winner gets a special gift – also a book. The missionary writes: “We really hope that we will be able to lay the foundations of reasonable faith in the minds of young people!” Please join our prayers for this great ministry as well!
