Haifa Theological Institute

We always say that our ministry is just a supply chain for the troops of evangelism. And as we hit the high season of the academic year, we are in the process of tight scheduling of the lectures and workshops for Christian educational institutions, and churches. Being in demand brings us great joy, for our primary role is to equip and supply those who are in the front line.

Haifa Theological Institute

One of the highlights of our academic activity was the Biblical Anthropology Course that we held in Haifa Theological Institute. The opportunity occurred as a network result. After the annexation of Crimea Michael, one of our team members, emmigrated to Israel and initiated his own media ministry in Haifa on the basis of the Institute ran by the Return to Zion ministry that serves Russian-speaking immigrants in Israel.

Every time I heard a preacher say "this is what the Greek says", I always wondered: what he is to talk about if he ever preached in Greece? Now the joke was on me! I had to teach a course based on the first 11 chapters of Genesis, to people who speak Hebrew daily. It was both a challenge and an adventure. But it was also the joy of mutual learning and exploring together the real meaning of the text about the essence, the nature and the purpose of man (see pictures attached).

Lviv International Book Fair

The Haifa Theological Institute is a distance learning school. The media production by Michael happened to be of great benefit to its ministry. While most of the students in the class did not have degrees, all of the lectures were recorded and will be combined into an online video course available to the rest of HTI students who are Russian speaking immigrants worldwide. It is our second trip to Haifa and it is the evidence of how God's networking helps us spread The News. Please pray for our students, for strong partnerships, opportunities that present themselves and the ripple effect which they have on the world

The troubles we face God always uses for His glory! The fact that we had to end our publishing activity in Crimea opened up new partnership opportunities with many missions and publishing organizations here in Kyiv. We don't have to duplicate their work by reproducing our infrastructure from scratch – they welcome us to use theirs  for publishing our materials. Moreover, Knigonosha, one of the publishers we partner with, is a member of the national publishing alliance and participates in all the key book events in the country. Due to this partnership, our books have been highlighted at the International Book Forum in Lviv (see pictures attached). Please pray that the resources we produce reach the right readers through events like this.

Another project we focus on this year is developing the materials for preachers, ministers and missionaries on how to avoid logical fallacies in preaching and evangelism.

Lviv International Book Fair

Logic never was never taught as a subject in the Soviet Union, and this still has a negative effect on churches and missions. It hinders the efforts and efficiency of these ministries.

We decided to use the crowd-sourcing approach to update the materials we already had by posting the description of various logical fallacies on social media and encouraging people to share examples of these fallacies which they encounter in sermons and public speaking. Our subscribers have become so actively involved, that we anticipate that the fresh publication of the logical fallacies materials will meet a great need! Not only will they be revised and expanded, but also made more culturally relevant and much more practical since they are based on real examples. Please pray for this project as it gains momentum.

Museum reconstruction

Museum reconstruction

We very much value your help and prayers concerning the Turiysk Museum of Creation. The top priority of our ministry is to find, train and equip those who are specially called and devoted to the work of God – like the couple that created the museum. The funds raised for the project so far and delivered with proper accountability through the ministers of the regional churches were sufficient for the team of volunteers to proceed with the concreting that has to be done at once (see the pictures attached). Subsequent renovation can now be carried out gradually on a step by step basis as and when funds become available.

Here you can watch a brief video which we made with English subtitles  about the museum –  Please do not hesitate to share it with everyone who may be interested, as well as pray with us for the development of the project to the greater glory of the Creator!

Another great window of opportunity that the Lord is opening is the beginning of co-operation between various churches for the sake of redeeming post-communist schools from Darwinist and Marxist atheistic propaganda it has become saturated with over generations of the Soviet regime. We were specially invited to a round table discussion on the issue arranged by the Christian faculty of the National University ’s Ostroh Academy to introduce the leaders of the churches to the abundance of the resources we have  developed through the years (see the pictures attached). Many were exited and surprised!

We hope they are encouraged not only to use the materials we provide, but also to develop their own new national resources for the sake of the Kingdom and for the future of the upcoming generations. Please join our prayers for the ripple effect of this strategically important event!

We highly cherish the partnerships we have enjoyed for many years with CCX, the national Christian students’ movement. I used to serve as the board chairman for it for a decade, and we continue to focus on equipping this exiting ministry for the effective work for the Lord. It was a special pleasure to lead seminars on the Biblical Art of Leadership and Biblical View of the Leadership Success for the movement’s leaders (see the pictures attached)

just before the start of the new academic year. Please pray with us for this amazing team and the impact they can make!

The new project we have started recently is updating and developing training materials on the proper using of logic and avoiding logical fallacies in evangelism, Bible studies, church preaching and teaching. We are doing it with the crowd-sourcing approach. Every other day we post on social media (Facebook, Telegram) a new type of logical fallacy and ask the readers to share the examples of it which they have encountered in sermons, ministry and evangelism. People have shared some very interesting cases! As a result we are going to issue the new expanded version of the Bible and Logic book and the series of short videos on every kind of logical fallacy with the actual culturally relevant illustrations to match. Please keep this project in your prayers as well.

When the apostle Paul was in Athens, he reasoned daily with those who would come to the marketplace there. He was discussing ideas at the very spot where everyone flocked to do just that – to debate something new. He specifically addressed the gathering of those whose main pursuit was contemplating and listening to the latest ideas. He shared the Good News at the location where people came for news. The ancient agora was the prime media hub of the age, not just a place of trade.

The internet, not the supermarket, is the modern equivalent of the Athens’ agora. The internet is where people go to daily talk, listen, share ideas and find news. The art and skills of delivering the message of Jesus there in an effective and relevant way are strategically important! Today every other person at church (and just about every young person) has a smart phone with a camera much better than the one DeMille had while producing his “The King of Kings,” with the processor much more powerful than the one NASA had when they launched a man to the Moon. What they are short of are practical skills and strategic vision on how to use the device they have for the Kingdom.

That is why we were so excited to organize two Media Challenge 2.0 courses back to back at two different locations – Kremenchug and Kiev – to train leaders of the media ministries (see the pictures attached). In line with the 2 Timothy 2:2 approach, these leaders will eventually be able to lead media trainings, groups and ministries in their regions and local churches. The week-long training courses in media production ended at both places with the workshop on the strategy of ministry using social mediaPlease join our prayers for the students to become leaders of the movement who can fill social media with the proper Bible-based thought-provoking content challenging the strongholds of atheism and false beliefs!

Turiysk Museum of Creation
Turiysk Museum of Creation
Turiysk Museum of Creation

We highly appreciated your response to the email concerning the initiative of the Turiysk Museum of Creation. Before the war, we did not think twice about helping projects like this, but our current overstretched budget has limited our abilities. That is why your care and prayers were such a great encouragement for us and Pavlo Voytko, the museum’s founder. We especially thank the Lord for everyone who was able to contribute financially! “3I can assure you that they gave as much as they could, and even more than they could. Of their own free will they begged us and pleaded for the privilege of having a part in helping God's people in Judaea.” (2 Corinthians 8:3,4).

Mindful of the model Paul exemplified by Paul as he delivered support to the saints: “We are taking care not to stir up any complaints about the way we handle this generous gift. Our purpose is to do what is right, not only in the sight of the LORD, but also in the sight of man.” (8:20,21), we invited some leaders of the regional mission-minded churches – as many as I could pack into the car – to join us on the trip in order to:
- build better networking for this amazing ministry (more people will know about the museum and visit it),
- develop the proper accountability for the use of finances,
- help the ministry with proper theological counsel in their work, and, last but not least,
- encourage the brothers to work better, to shape the worldview of the next generations.

We have had some great fellowship praising the Lord for this ministry, as well as for your faithful and sacrificial brotherly care (see the pictures attached). Please pray with us for this amazing initiative, for the funds to complete the facility reconstruction that is about to be started, and for the effective spread of the message through the ministry of Pavlo, a committed servant of the Lord!

Music & Science Camp
Music & Science Camp
Music & Science Camp

We finished this month with getting involved into a very special project – “Fortissimo” Children Camp in Transcarpathia (see the pictures attached). “A threefold cord is not quickly broken” – the wise Solomon said. The three cords of this camp were the Bible, Music and Science! Isn't that an amazing mixture?

Music & Science Camp

The camp engaged some musically gifted kids of various ages, including those who have special needs. We were very excited to have an opportunity to share both our experience in running the apologetics children’s camps with the “Fortissimo” staff and the evidences of Creation, the Bible and Jesus with the children. Please pray with us for the seeds planted to grow in the young hearts as they explore God’s love in His word, His works in creation and His gift of music! “The LORD your God is with you; his power gives you victory. The LORD will take delight in you, and in his love he will give you new life.” (Zephaniah 3:17).

Sumy evangelism seminar
Sumy evangelism seminar

Probably, this month has been the hottest ever for us! The requests for our seminars and training arrived from various places. We could not ignore the needs and turn down the invitations, so we kept crossing the country from East to West and from North to South. Two topics were most popular almost everywhere we went – missions and family!

Sumy family camp
Sumy family camp

The month started with a training mission in the city of Sumy (North of the country). It included seminars on the Biblical strategy of evangelism open to all the churches of the city, a family conference for the leaders of the churches and their spouses, and a message on the challenges of spiritual growth during the worship at the most senior congregation of the city (see the pictures attached).

Sumy worship

For us, it was not just an opportunity to share, but also a great encouragement to see the diversity of God’s children. Although they differ in traditions and approaches, they are united by their longing to be His presence in the world, which is revealed through reinforcing family by God’s Word and through spreading the message to all people. Please pray with us for these lighthouses of hope in the ocean of the world!
Kharkiv children ministries training

After renewing supplies of our book back in Kiev, we went to Kharkiv (in the East) to offer a conference for Sunday Schools teachers and the leaders of children’s ministries (see the picture attached). Shaping the biblical worldview of the next generation is one of the strategic priorities of our ministry. We encourage, train and equip teachers and parents to effectively resist the ongoing brainwashing with atheism and evolutionism as mediated through the education system. In the beginning of the year, we intentionally focused on developing resources for elementary school kids, and we are now developing them for teenagers. Please join our prayers about this work!

Odessa missions conference
Odessa missions conference

After replenishing our book stock in Kiev again, we went to Odessa (South) to present workshops at the Youth Missions Conference. The first workshop was dedicated to the mission of winning the creation for the Creator understood as God’s purpose for man, as we see it throughout the Scripture (Adam was commanded to fill the earth out from Eden, Abraham’s children were chosen to become the blessing for all nations out of the Promised Land, and Jesus’ disciples are called to teach all nations out of the church),

Lviv music & apologetics ministry
as well as the model for implementing that command, as revealed in the ministries of Jesus and Paul. The second workshop was dedicated to a narrower issue of culture shock that the missionaries have to deal with as they enter a different culture: its causes, nature, aspects, dynamics and how to cope with it. The workshop ended with a practical event: a girl who had recently returned from a mission to Cambodia offered everyone the arthropod delicacies she had obtained there. It really enhanced the students’ understanding of the missionary prayer: “Where You’ll lead me I will follow; what You’ll feed me, help me swallow.” Please pray with us for these young messengers of the Lord as they enter the mission field!

From Odessa, we headed straight to Lviv (in the West) to meet with a team of musicians and scientists (what an explosive mixture!) who have a vision to launch a children camp geared for the kids with various backgrounds, including those with special needs. They want the camp to provide a balanced mixture of the emotional and the intellectual through music and apologetics, and we love the idea! We had a very fruitful discussion concerning the vision, supplied the team with the resources we had with us (see the picture attached) and sent them more afterwards. We are going to visit their camp for the Day of Questions and Answers. Please keep this great project in your prayers.

As if that was not enough for the month, another request came that we could not refuse – an invitation to provide training on practical evangelism in Lisbon (Portugal) to a congregation of immigrants from the former Soviet Union (Russia, Ukraine, Moldova).

Lisbon family seminar
Lisbon family seminar
Although they are far from their homeland, they remember that our real citizenship is in heaven. Many of them are working as cabdrivers and that provides them with great opportunities for personal evangelism. We spent two days with them exploring together the biblical principles of personal evangelism and discussing the biblical foundations for the family (see pictures attached). This fellowship was a special encouragement for us as displaced people! Please pray with us for these workers of the Lord, who are far from their homes.

Lisbon World Explorers Monument

Olga and I celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary on our way to Kharkiv. Another event we celebrated in Lisbon was 40 years since we first met. After the Sunday service, our new friends took us downtown to the monument to the world explorers (see the picture attached). The people depicted on the monument would not have been able to make their amazing discoveries without those who equipped their expeditions for their missions. That was a great reminder of how important it is to equip God’s explorers for their mission of expanding the Kingdom to the ends of the earth. That is exactly what our ministry is about!
